Lest We Forget

When war broke out in 1914 Australia had been a federal commonwealth for only fourteen years. The new national government was eager to establish its reputation among the nations of the world. In 1915 Australian and New Zealand soldiers formed part of the allied expedition that set out to capture the Gallipoli peninsula to open the way to the Black Sea for the allied navies. The plan was to capture Constantinople (now Istanbul), capital of the Ottoman Empire and an ally of Germany. They landed at Gallipoli on 25 April, meeting fierce resistance from the Turkish defenders. What had been planned as a bold stroke to knock Turkey out of the war quickly became a stalemate, and the campaign dragged on for eight months. At the end of 1915 the allied forces were evacuated after both sides had suffered heavy casualties and endured great hardships. Over 8,000 Australian soldiers were killed. News of the landing at Gallipoli made a profound impact on Australians at home and 25 April quickly became

I've made 550 hexagons....after 3 games of football this weekend I was on a roll....I've sewn lots of them together and in the cold light of day (as they say) I will take some pictures of the ones I've put together so far. On another note.... The EB sewing groups Blog ring has been added to my blog...thanks Helen...I do lurk there alot and am amazed by the talent of these ladies...so thank you for letting me join and will try to get some cloths sewing done real soon...but unlike the others I have no beautiful children to sew for (yet!!) and therefore my cloths sewing is boring...work cloths...but feel free ladies to leave comments on my blog anyway it will be nice hearing from you!

I've now put together the 'stack and wack' blocks and I love them!! They look really good together and I definitely plan on using the block again...I have also put togther the 'crazy' strip for the second border..just needing to buy some green material for the first and thrid borders so I can put it together...I'm hoping that I find the prefect material at the craft fair tomorrow....fingers crossed!! Damm my camera being broken!! I'll ask Nic to bring her camera around tomorrow when she visits, with her new man, for a BBQ. DH has decided on some yummy marinated pork fillet and BBQ potato chips...YUM!! I still so miss my camera...Nic's just never turn out right for me!

Happy 100th post

I was waiting to post something exciting for my 100th post...but nothing has come up....:( So I decided to post an image of myself....hehehehe and yes they are the real colour of my eyes...I haven't enhanced the colour at all just made the other bits black and white. The picture was taken in February this year...I would have posted a newer pic but the camera is still out of action and I'm still wearing my smelly dog walking cloths from this afternoon so it is kinda lucky it is! On other things I now have 502 or is it 503 (can't be bothered getting up to check the piece of paper) hexagons...roughly about half of them are sewn together...sorry no pics..I will have to borrow Nic's camera again! Oh yeah just realised it was Wednesday off to check Helen's blog!!

Quilting ideas

Image
Deciding what to do for Bernadette's quilt...I like the idea of blues and greens ...very tropical as this quilt shows for this months P&Q magazine..called 'Tropical Fun' Scanned images...aren't as bright as the book I'm planning something like this....with blue stack and whack's in the middle then a green or yellow) border...then more blues (this is where the problem lays) and then a final green (or yellow) border. If got 4 different ideas drawn here ...stripes like in the quilt above...'9 square blocks' or 4 square blocks or more stack and whacks....I have squares cut out squares of blue for more s and w's but haven't made them yet...oh decisions!!! After talking with Helen...what about 'crazy' log cabin blocks for the blue border....has the 'sqaure-ness' with out being square...lol sound silly!! Better idea...strips that aren't straight...your a genius Helen

Roast Lamb YUM!! We've made it before...a lot different this time...and Dh's dad's wife's mum (lol) wouldn't get out of our way and kept giving annoying 'helpful' instructions and then decided to cut up the fruit salad as we were trying to dish up dinner???!!! Oh well a lovely time as had by all and I got to start and finish reading my new book... The Stone Angel... We only got one Bunny from Mick (thanks Mick!) so not to much to work off the old backside.
