Before

What is MS? MS stands for multiple sclerosis, a disease of the central nervous system affecting more young adult Australians than any other neurological condition. Who gets MS? People are typically diagnosed in their twenties and thirties, with the average age of diagnosis being only 30. Interestingly three times more women are affected by MS than men and it is more common in cooler climates. In Australia, over 23,000 people currently have MS, however this figure is increasing as diagnosis methods become more advanced. What are the typical symptoms of MS? Symptoms of MS are unpredictable and change from person to person, and from time to time in the same person. Some of the symptoms of MS may include: tiredness blurry vision loss of balance and muscle coordination slurred speech difficulty walking short-term memory loss tingling and numbness or in severe cases tremors and paralysis t Can MS be cured? MS is a lifelong disease for which a cure is yet to be found. However, doctors and scientists are making discoveries in treating and understanding MS everyday and research to find a cure is very encouraging. While supporting this search for a cure, MS Queensland also provides information and advice on the treatments available, which means people with MS can better manage their symptoms. What does MS Queensland do? MS Queensland facilitates programs and support for people with MS including a range of residential facilities, social support programs, accommodation support services, attendant care in private homes, involvement with regional centres and country link programs. These services are vital in order to maintain the independence and dignity of people with MS.

My friends and family managed to donate almost $200 to support me in my 10km walk!! Yes 10kms! I am not a very fit person and had only planned on walking the 5km, but with some gentle bullying from my fellow walkers I went all the way! I'd had a lot of late nights up and down with a coughing little boy as well as full days at work so it was a real effort to drive the hour to get to the start line on time and then walk 10kms on sore feet, but I'm very proud on my achievements and hopefully next year I will raise some more money and have a few more join our team! It's not too late if you want to add a few bucks to our team total! Donate here
